Online Play Near Cascades Casino London

The casino at 900 King Street is a building a person walks into, with a door, a floor and an ID check at 19. Online play in Ontario runs on its own figures, and this page sets them out.

01Since April 4, 2022

Ontario opened its regulated online gaming market on April 4, 2022. Ontario's AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) holds the regulatory role, while iGaming Ontario, working with private operators, conducts and manages online play.

Two conditions must both hold before a private operator is legal. First, the AGCO must have registered it. Second, a signed operating agreement between the operator and iGaming Ontario is required; meeting either condition alone falls short. OLG.ca is different: it is the government's own site.

Every player has two rules to meet. The minimum age for online casino play is 19, matching the casino entry age under the Gaming Control Act, 1992. The player must also be physically in Ontario while playing.

02Checking a site before play

At igamingontario.ca, iGaming Ontario maintains the official register of regulated sites. Sites on it display two logos: iGaming Ontario and BetGuard. Readers can check a site's name against that list.

A private online casino that does not appear in the directory is not a legal operator in Ontario. It carries none of the province's player protections. BetGuard does not block it, and neither does My PlayBreak, so a self-exclusion set up in Ontario will not reach it.

03BetGuard and its four terms

iGaming Ontario runs BetGuard (betguard.ca). OLG.ca and all other regulated online gaming sites in Ontario fall under that single opt-out. A person may pick a custom length or one of three fixed terms: 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.

Land-based casinos sit outside it, including the one at 900 King Street. Casinos fall instead under OLG's My PlayBreak program, with terms of 3 months, 6 months, or anywhere from 1 to 5 years. Every Ontario casino is closed to a person on a casino break. Three routes lead to enrolment: calling 1-800-387-0098, the OLG Support Centre line, asking staff on the floor, or visiting a PlaySmart Centre.

04The Ad links on this site

Figure Ground carries three paid links, all on the home page and all marked Ad. Their spots are fixed: the header, a strip just past the opening screen, and a panel in the closing stretch of the page. One private online casino partner stands behind all three. That partner pays Figure Ground a commission and can change. The partner is unconnected to the 900 King Street casino, and Figure Ground holds no accounts and accepts no bets.

QQuestions and answers

Q1How old must an online player be in Ontario?
A player must be 19 or older. For casinos, the line is identical under the Gaming Control Act, 1992: anyone under 19 is barred from entering or staying.
Q2Does it matter where the player is standing?
Regulated sites are only for people who are physically in Ontario, so a player's location matters as much as age.
Q3Where is the official register of regulated sites kept?
iGaming Ontario keeps the official directory at igamingontario.ca. Two logos appear on each listed site: iGaming Ontario and BetGuard.
Q4Does BetGuard keep someone out of the casino?
No, BetGuard covers regulated online gaming sites only, OLG.ca included. It does not cover land-based casinos such as the one at 900 King Street. OLG's My PlayBreak program handles casino breaks.
